This is Fancy Pants Fancy is an American Quarter Horse who came to our family in September of 2008. At 1/2 year old she could not touched, handled or trusted. She was an adopted abuse case from the Kent County SPCA. The SPCA rescued her and several other horses from very horrific conditions. With love, care, and paitence she is turning into a wonderful horse. Her owner, 8 year old Samantha, loves her and has dreams of showing her. At 2 1/2 years old she is taking to a saddle very well. She lives with 2 shires and a retired thoroughbred.

Friends and I recently returned from a fantastic vacation at Mohonk Mountain House near New Paltz, New York. We hauled our horses from Delaware and Pennsylvania and were luxuriously accommodated at Mohonk Mountain House in their stables and in a housekeeping cottage on the grounds of the resort.
Mohonk Preserve (http://www.mohonkpreserve.org/) is an area of nearly 7,000 acres with over 50 miles of carriage roads. The footing was excellent and we enjoyed six days of riding at Mohonk and the adjacent Lake Minnewaska State Park. All of this horse-riding paradise is just 90 miles from New York City!
I had originally researched this trip and found a farm in Kerhonkson, New York about eight miles from Mohonk. That would have meant trailering in each day. In the end, those accommodations fell through and in desperation I called the Barn Manager, Nikki Thompson at Mohonk Mountain House (nthompson@mohonk.com) and asked if they could accommodate guests traveling with horses. They could and did. Nikki and her staff took excellent care of us. They did our morning feeding each day and cleaned our stalls. They helped us load and unload all the necessary paraphernalia one has when traveling with horses.
Since 2002, I have taken a variety of road trips with my horses. They include a trip to Acadia in Maine, Gettysburg, various locations in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Mount Rogers in Virginia and this trip to New York. I have also researched several other locations in New York, West Virginia and Tennessee.
Our group gives a great big thumbs up to Mohonk, Nikki Thompson and her staff.
